In the 1911 Census Margaret Leatherbarrow is recorded with her father and brother in Little Crosby, but not with William.

On 2nd March, 1912, Wm Leatherbarrow, 30, married, gardener, arrived in St John, New Brunswick, Canada on the Empress of Britain

William served in the British Army during World War I and was discharged in March 1919.

In 1920, 30th January, listed as a returning Canadian, William Leatherbarrow, 37, Gardener, arrives at St John, New Brunswick on the Scandinavian from Liverpool. It is recorded that it is 7 years since he was in Canada. He is travelling on his own. Prob

In the 1921 Census in Canada, William, 39, Gardener, Margaret, 45, and Mary, 9 are living at 102 Mount Pleasant, St John-Victoria, New Brunswick, in the house of Theodore Estabrook. The census records William’s ‘Year of Immigration’ as 1910, and his religion as RC. (Margaret’s ‘Year of Immigration’ is 1912 (as is the daughter Mary’s) This might suggest that they travelled separately.)

Interestingly, next door, or at least the next listing in the census, is John Cunningham, 38, born in England, and his wife Elizabeth, 35, also born in England. William's sister and brother-in-law.

While he was in Canada Williasm sent the photo on the right. In the album there is a note:
"Mary's Uncle Willie in Canada. (At Esterbrooks)"
