Caroline was born in Guiana (Suriname)
In April, 1841, Carolina left Suriname with her father, John, her grandmother, Majorin, and an aunt, Maria.
Carolina was 14 when her father remarried.
She acted as witness in her father's marriage to Hannah Holloway.
In the 1851 census:

is living at 5. Claremont Terrace, Clerkenwell, London, in the house of Thomas Gabriel, a veterinary surgeon and his wife Sarah, a governess.
Also in the house are: two Gabriel daughters - aged 25 and 22; two female servants - aged 25 and 15; and another 'pupil' -aged 10.

In the 1871 census Caroline is living with her father.

In the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses Caroline, a governess, is living with her brother, John Holloway Buschman.
