This was a very interesting find, as their daughter, Mary Latham, was thought to be a Wharton (by her granddaughter).

In the 1861 census in Bond Street, Liverpool:

John Latham	Head	28	Carter	b. Crosby, Lancashire
Mary Latham	Wife	28		b. Formby, Lancashire
Henry Latham	Son	4	Scholar	b. Liverpool, Lancashire

Mary Latham, their daughter, is born in 17, Bond Street in 1862. Aged 9, Mary is recorded in the house of her grand parents in the 1871 census, (with Henry and William whom I have assumed are siblings). It is probable that John Latham and his wife died before 1871.
The Henry Latham recorded in 1871 is younger than Mary, so either the earlier Henry has died or my tree here is incorrect.
Note that in the 1861 census a Henry Latham, 4, Grandson, is recorded in house of John's parents, but this is probably the son of John's brother Peter.
