Notes
Bill Knight was a chorister, in Westminster Abbey choir.
(It is apparently very difficult to get into this choir).
On 25th March, 1927, aged 13, Bill is a passenger, with a number of other choristers, returning to Southampton from Canada (St. John N.B.) on the Canadian Pacific ship 'Minnedoba'.
I have been told that Bill was the youngest general in British Army but have not been able to confirm this.
However, his letters show that his rise through the ranks was fast:
Sept 1941 - Lieutenant
July 1942 - Captain
April 1943 - Major
Oct 1945 - Lt Col. Aged 31
His last letter while in the army was in January 1946 when he said he expects to return to England early in 1946 and then if he cannot get a job at Hands he may stay on for a year or two in the Army.
The picture of Bill on the right was taken at his uncle-in-law Jim Drewry's house in Letchworth in 1932. It appears in the album on the same page as a similar picture of his cousin Tony Drewry.
