I John Drewry of Derby in the County of Derby printer and bookseller do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be fully paid and satisfied by my executors hereinafter named and out of my personal estate I give and devise unto my dear wife Ann all and singular my messuages lands tenements herediments and real estates whatsoever with their and any of their appurtences save and except the messuage dwellinghouse or tenament situated at the corner of a certain street in Derby aforesaid called The Saddlergate in which I now reside with the shops printing rooms warehouses and other appurtances thereof and are now occupied by a leasehold to my said wife and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life (or impeachable for waste) in lieu of and in full satisfaction for her Dower or Thirds which she can or may have or claim out of all or any my real and personal estates

and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise all my said messuages lands tenements herediments and real estates whatsoever and wheresoever save and except as aforesaid unto my nephew John Drewry son of my brother Thomas Drewry and heirs and assigns for ever

subject nevertheless to and charged with the payment of the following legacies or sums of money that is to say I give and bequeath to my nephews and nieces William Drewry, Joshua Drewry and Mary Drewry, sons and daughter of my brother Joshua Drewry, to my nephews and nieces Thomas Drewry, George Drewry, Frederick Drewry, Ann Chester, wife of Charles Chester, Sarah Drewry and Sophia Drewry, sons and daughters of my said brother Thomas Drewry

To my nieces Ann Storkhill and Jane Storkhill daughters of my sister Hannah Storkhill or to such of them as shall be living at the time of the decease of my said wife each the sum of two hundred pounds

And I do hereby charge the said legacies or payments on all my said messuages lands tenements herediments and real estates whatsoever and wheresoever with their and every of their appurantces (save and except as aforesaid) and do direct that the sums (?) of all be paid by my said Nephew John Drewry his heirs and assigns by and out of all my said messuages lands tenements herediments and real estates whatsoever and wheresoever with their and every of their appurtanances within six months next after the decease of my said wife and if any of my said Nephews or Nieces to whom such legacies or payments are hereinbefore bequeathed shall happen to die in the life time of my said wife then I do hereby will and direct that the legacies or payment legacies or payments so bequeathed as aforesaid ...

therein so dying shall lapse for the benefitof my said nephew John Drewry his heirs and assigns I give and devise unto my said Nephew John Drewry his heirs and assigns for ever all my said messuage dwellinghouse or tenement situated at the corner of a certain street in Derby aforesaid called The Saddlergate in which I now reside with the shops buildings printing rooms and other the appurtances thereof and which are now occupied by me I give and bequeath unto my said nephew John Drewry his executors administrators and assigns for ever all and singular my money securities for money debts goods chattels personal Estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever

subject nevertheless to the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses and also to the following legacies I give and bequeath unto my said wife the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid immediately after my decease

I give and bequeath to my said brother Joshua Drewry the sum of two hundred pounds

I give and bequeath to my said brother Thomas Drewry the sum of fifty guineas

I give and bequeath to my said sister Hannah Storkell the sum of two hundred pounds

I give and bequeath to each of my said Nephews and Nieces William Drewry Joshua Drewry, Mary Dewry, Thomas Drewry, George Drewry, Frederick Drewry, Sarah Drewry, Sophia Drewry, Ann Storkell and Jane Storkell the sum of two hundred pounds

I give and bequeath to my said niece Ann Chester the sum of one hundred pounds having already given her the sum of one hundred pounds upon her marriage

I give and bequeath unto the three sons and one daughter of Mary Crackel (?) of Duffield in the said county of Derby each the sum of one hundred pounds

all which said last mentioned legacies I do hereby direct shall be paid by my executors herein after named by and out of my said personal Estate within twelve months next after my decease

I give and bequeath unto all and every the servants which shall be employed by me at the time of my decease such as apprentices journeymen footmen and maid servants each the sum of two guineas to be paid to them respectively by my said executors within one month next of my decease

I give and bequeath to the poor inhabitants of the Liberty of Duffield in the said Parish of Duffield the sum of ten pounds and I do hereby direct that the same may be divided and distributed by Mr John Taylor of Duffield and Ruth his wife or the survivor of them to and amongst such objects of charity and in such shares and proportions as they in their direction shall think proper to be paid within one month next after my decease

I give and bequeath unto my friend John Haywood of Duffield aforesaid the said John Taylor and Ruth his wife and to the said Mary Crackel (?) each a Morning ring which I hereby direct my said executors to furnish them with as soon as may be after my decease

I give and bequeath unto the Reverend James Pilkington of Derby aforesaid the sum of fifty pounds which I also direct to be paid out of my said personal estate within twelve months next after my decease as a recompense for the trouble he may have in executing this my will

and lastly I do hereby nominate institute (?) and appoint my said nephew John Drewry and the Reverend James Pilkington executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three

Codicil revoking the bequest of the Mourning rings and substituting them with a legacy of five pounds to buy mourning with. Also adds a legacy of five pound to William Haywood plumber and glazier.

Also: another codicil:

Whereas I John Drewry of Derby in the County of Derby printer and bookseller have made my last will and testament in writing duly executed bearing date the twelfth day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety three whereby I have given and bequeathed to my Nephew Joshua Drewry the several legacies or sums of two hundred pounds and two hundred pounds to be paid and payable as therein is mentioned

Now I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said Nephew Joshua Drewry the further legacy or sum of three ['five' crossed out] hundred pounds to be paid to him by my nephew John Drewry by and out of my personal estate in the proportions and at the times following, that is to say, the sum of fifty pounds part thereof at the end of one year next after my decease and the sum of fifty pounds a year at the end and expiration of every succeeding year to be computed from the end of one year after my decease until the whole sum of three ['five' crossed out] hundred pounds shall be paid and discharged which said legacy of five hundred pounds [sic] I do hereby charge upon and make payable out of my personal estate and do hereby give and bequeath the same to my said Nephew Joshua Drewry over and above the several legacies given and bequeathed to him in and by my said will

And I do hereby will and direct that until my said Nephew Joshua Drewry shall depart this life before the whole of the said legacy of three ['five' crossed out] hundred pounds shall have been paid that such part thereof as shall not have become due and payable at the time of his death shall lapse for the benefit of my said nephew John Drewry

I do hereby give and bequeath unto my dear wife in addition to the provision already made for her in and by my said will one half part of all my household linen

Also the bedstead and hangings with the bed pillows bolster and blankets thereto belonging and now standing and being in my said lodging room Also my best set of tea china and six of my best silver tea spoons and also best tea urn tea tray waiter and snuffers (?) with stand

and I do hereby ratify and confirm all and every the gifts devises and bequests in and by my said will made or given not hereby altered or since determined by the death of any of the legatees therein named or otherwise and declare this to be a codicil to my said will and to be accepted and taken as part thereof as fully and effectually to all intents and purposes as if the same had been actually inserted therein

In witness whereof I the said John Drewry the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety four ---- signed John Drewry in the presence of certain witnesses.

Proved 20/11/1794 in London by John Drewry nephew one of the executors to whom administration was granted. Rev James Pilkington the other executor can apply later.
